Tips for Navigating a Long-Distance Relationship

Back Story
My girlfriend lives in California while I live in Japan which is a 16-hour time difference. In general, this can be difficult as one person is sleeping at night in their timezone while it’s daytime for their partner. This limits a lot of real-time communication and connection. So here are some tips I’ve found that have made my relationship smoother while navigating the time difference. Each relationship has unique preferences and boundaries so this is just my experience :).
Share Updates of Daily Life
When my girlfriend is asleep, I send photos of my meals and anything interesting I see. That way she stays updated on my life and has something to look forward to when she wakes up. We are both awake at the same time for about 8 hours each day. Although I have work when she is awake and cannot call her, we text each other constantly and send photos of what we are doing.
